Telugu is a phonetic language, meaning it’s spelt exactly the way it sounds. So Telugu spelling is easier than English.

Read the chart of letters below from left to right, top to bottom. You can click on each letter to hear its sound.

Note: ఙ and ఞ are tricky to pronounce on their own, so we say “inya” and “inni” when teaching the alphabet.

The first two rows of the alphabet are “acculu” which means vowels.

అచ్చులు

The rest of the rows are “hallulu” which means consonants.

హల్లులు

Finally, the Telugu word for alphabet is “varṇamāla.”
